The Power of a Christ-centered Home

During the last General Conference, Elder Scott gave a comprehensive sermon on how we can have Peace at Home.

He said, "I'm sure you can identify the fundamental principles that center your home on the Savior.  The prophetic counsel to have daily personal and family prayer, daily personal and family scripture study, and weekly family home evening are the essential, weight-bearing beams in the construction of a Christ-centered home.  Without these regular practices it will be difficult to find the desired and much-needed peace and refuge from the world."

In hind-sight, I guess we should have built a home out of popsicle sticks bearing the words "scripture study," "family prayer," and "FHE," but instead, we created a mobile that signifies the counsel found in this quote, by Elder Scott:

"One of the greatest blessings we can offer to the world is the power of a Christ-centered home (1) where the gospel is taught, (2) covenants are kept, (3) and love abounds."

At the center of our mobile, we have a picture of the Savior.  We also have pictures of the scriptures, the temple, and a heart...representing the three things mentioned in the quote above.  We also added a picture of people taking the sacrament and Jesus getting baptized.  (I think I will add the words FHE, Family Prayer etc. as reminders.)

I chose the rainbow as a reminder of our covenants...just as the Lord did after the flood.  He put a rainbow in the sky--not just as a promise to never flood the earth again--but as a reminder that He will honor "the everlasting covenants" that have been made between him and all of the children on earth.  And that when we "embrace the truth" and keep His commandments, we will find the happiness promised in this scripture.

Anyway, there are tons of other points made in this talk.  I especially like that Elder Scott points out that children contribute to whether a home will be Christ-centered.

I found this bright and cheery rainbow mobile idea at the blog Things to Share & Remember.  You can purchase the reusable Wee Gallery Mobile on Amazon for pretty cheap and the templates for the rainbow circles and other downloads are free at Things to Share and Remember.
