Catch the Wave

Can I just say how exciting our lesson was today on how we can "Catch the Wave" as advised in Elder Nelson's General Conference talk!?  So. FUN!

Together we discussed what "the Wave" is that Elder Nelson is talking about.

Elder Nelson says, "This wave of truth and righteousness is wondrous!  It is not man-made!  It comes from the Lord, who said, "I will hasten my work in its time."

"This wave is empowered by a divine announcement made 193 years ago.  It consisted of only seven words: "This is My Beloved Son.  Hear Him!"  Uttered by Almighty God, that announcement introduced a young Joseph Smith to the Lord Jesus Christ.  Those seven words launched the Restoration of His gospel.  Why?  Because our living God is a loving God!  He wants His children to know Him and Jesus Christ, whom He has sent!  And He wants His children to gain immortality and eternal life!"

I love that!  This wave is not man-made.  It is a wave that will move through the whole earth and it is a wave started and propelled by the love that our Heavenly Father has for each one of us.  Amazing.  Exciting.  Wonderful!!  Powerful.

Now, this we didn't talk about, but my children did spend a lot of time in the wave pool at Holiday World while visiting cousins this summer.  I'm sure that they now understand the power of a wave...and that this is the best wave they will ever catch!

The children watched with rapt attention as our wave experiment came together.

We filled a bottle with about 1/3 full with canola oil.  Then fill the rest of the way with water (although you might want to leave a little more head room than we did, so your ocean wave can really get to rockin'!)  Lastly, we added a few (million) drops of blue food coloring (you really only need a few drops.)

And voila!  We had our very own wave to ooh and ahh over!

It's so hard to catch the wave on my iPad camera, but YOU and your kids will surely "Catch THE Wave" with this fun experiment and lesson!  Love the Gospel!  Love it and live it!
