The Sound a Smile Makes

Whew!  It's been a busy week or so around here...preschool graduation, a four-day, last-minute Memorial Day weekend trip to Washington, DC, AND we received another wonderful letter from a new friend in Japan!  What a treat!

First of all, I was super-impressed by Kaho's handwriting.  It is a work of art, don't you think?  But then I was even more impressed (and grateful) to discover that this 6th grader from Ishinomaki, Miyagi also knows English!  Here is her letter:

Another thing that warmed my heart is that the fabric that I used to make this particular backpack is fabric that my Mother used to make tons of things for us growing up.  I believe that I have the last of the fabric in my possession, so it makes me happy to see it being used to bring some comfort and cheer to these special children in Japan, Kaho and her brother Yuuma.  (Little did my Mother know all those years ago when she bought this bolt of fabric that it would someday travel to Japan among it's many other uses!)

It's also fitting that Kaho would be the one to receive this pack, because the design on the fabric is covered in English words that tell a simple story about the characters that line the bottom of the pattern.

I love her final thoughts, "We'll do our best."  Do that, Kaho! Do that!! :)
