Marriage is Ordained of God FHE

This month, we're diving into The Family Proclamation again.

It's been a while since we did our "30 Days for the Family Proclamation" and our "Five-Minute Family Proclamation Lessons", etc., and my younger ones need to learn what we believe about Family.

If you're looking for some interactive ideas to help teach lessons about the Family Proclamation to your family, check out my "Family Proclamation Lessons" page with links to lessons we've done in the past.

Tonight, we talked about the beginning of The Family: A Proclamation to the World, which says, "We, the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children.

All human beings—male and female—are created in the image of God."

To keep everyone's interest, we showed our kids wedding photos of family members (and had them "guess" who was in the photos) and then showed them lots of baby pictures of cousins and other family members and had them guess who was in those photos too.

We asked the kids what they noticed about the baby pictures.  Someone said that the babies generally looked like their parents in one way or another and that they all had a light in their faces.  We said that each human being was created in the image of their Heavenly Parents and we carry that light with us.

It was a nice and simple family home evening lesson, easy to replicate.

  1. wow, how fun to find a photo of the Frank C family. I will copy and add that to their familysearch.org memories. Trying to get someone to write a story of Marian Hatch. Your dad and mom translated and edited FRank C's missionary journals from Sweden and they are on FS. Someone needs to bug your dad about sharing more. He has some on his blog, I've written Barbara and her grand dg added a story about Marian on FS, Julie said she would sometime and Robyn too but everyone is too busy. Check out memories on FS to see what's there now and what you have that could be added. Great ideas for learning about our families...
