Five Best Book of Mormon Verses

Today, we've got "Friday Five" from Kimberly of Motherhood: The Great Adventure.  The post that she is sharing with us in The Forum is all about The Book of Mormon-specifically her five favorite verses (in no particular order).

Mosiah 2:17

"...when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God."
As a mother I love this verse.  I spend all day in the service of my fellow beings, which without proper perspective can get tiresome.  This verse reminds me that service is what we're here to do, and that every act of service we do for another person is recognized and remembered by our Heavenly Father.

 Ether 12: 27

"And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness.  I give unto men weakenss that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them."
This verse holds such an incredible promise, all we have to do is recognize that we need God's help, ask Him for help trusting that He will in fact help and through grace He will bless us.  I personally have received strength as I have struggled with my weaknesses, and though the road is long and I have far to go this verse brings me such comfort as I walk that road.

Alma 37: 6

"...by small and simple things are great things brought to pass"

This verse has taken on new meaning as I've become a parent.  Sometimes it is easy to forget who my daughter really is and just what her potential really is.  It can become easy to just go for results and become obsessed with controlling our her.  But when I remember that Heavenly Father sent me a small baby who has the potential to become great just like He is I am humbled by that trust and through faith in His ability to help me live up to I am able to treat her with much more kindness and patience.

1 Nephi 3: 7

"...I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them."
Whenever I get discouraged by all that I am called to do as a wife and mother and daughter of God this verse gives me the faith to just get going.  Often the Lord gives us commandments that seem impossible, yet if we just trust that He will provide a way I can testify that He will.

2 Nephi 31: 20

"Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men.  Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the father:  Ye shall have eternal life."

This verse succinctly shows us the way to go-forward, and how to continue in that direction, through Christ, hope and love.  It simply distills the gospel into it's most basic and important parts.  All we really need to do is press forward, have faith in Christ and in his promises to us, and love him and our fellow man.  If we do these things we will obtain eternal life.

There are many more verses in The Book of Mormon that provide both comfort and direction as well as teaching us important principles and doctrines of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  That's why I love The Book of Mormon so much, it is just chock full of great verses and stories to help us in our sojourn here on earth.

Have a great weekend, everyone!
